TEACHING
Sylvan Family Health Centre is proud to be a teaching clinic. Our physicians have teaching positions within both the University of Alberta and University of Calgary.

When visiting our clinic you can expect to see a wide variety of learners including medical students, residents, nursing students and nurse practitioner students. We take pride in teaching and strive to ensure the next generation of health care providers excel in comprehensive evidenced based medicine.
Will I also see my own physician as well as the learner?
Patients can expect to see their own physician after seeing a medical student or early level resident. Senior or advanced residents are learning to work independently and may see patients independently. Learners are always supervised according to their knowledge level and all patients are reviewed with the attending physician at the end of the day.

Can I decline seeing a learner?
We understand that there are sensitive issues that you may not want to discuss with a learner and you can decline seeing a learner. However we do hope that you consider seeing a learner whenever possible. By helping us teach our learners you are supporting the next generation of physicians and nurses.

Can I provide feedback about a learner?
If you have any constructive or positive feedback about a learner, please do not hesitate to reach out to your family physicians or nurse practitioner. Your feedback is valuable for all of our learners.
